Although only a few remains survive today, the site still holds great historical significance. We will then continue to Ephesus, one of Turkey's most remarkable archaeological treasures and one of the twelve cities of the ancient Ionian League, located near İzmir on the western coast of Asia Minor. As an important port city in antiquity, Ephesus served as a major gateway for trade routes into Asia Minor.Walk through history along marble streets lined with magnificent public buildings and monuments. Highlights include the Baths of Scholastica, the impressive Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian, and the spectacular Grand Theatre. The Library of Celsus was built in the early 2nd century A.D. by Gaius Julius Aquila in honor of his father, Gaius Julius Celsus Polemaeanus, who served as the Roman governor of the Province of Asia.Another highlight of Ephesus is the Grand Theatre, originally constructed in the 3rd century B.C. and later enlarged by the Romans in the 1st century A.D., reaching a capacity of approximately 24,000 spectators. We will also visit the House of the Virgin Mary, located on the Aladağ Mountains, approximately 5 miles from Ephesus. During the Third Ecumenical Council held in Ephesus in 431 A.D., it was believed that the Virgin Mary came to Ephesus with Saint John in 37 A.D. and lived there until her death in 48 A.D.After the discovery of the house, the Archbishop of İzmir declared it a place of pilgrimage in 1892. On July 26, 1967, Pope Paul VI visited the site and prayed there. Our final stop will be the İsa Bey Mosque, one of the finest examples of Seljuk architecture, located just below the Basilica of Saint John.At the end of the tour, we will drive back to your hotel.End of our services.
