Gastric Bypass in Kusadasi

Gastric bypass surgery is a weight loss surgical procedure. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia in an operating room. Before undergoing the operation, the patient must have a fasting period of about 8 hours. A day before the surgery, blood thinners are administered in adequate doses to prevent blood clotting. A urinary catheter is placed after the anesthesiologist has anesthetized the patient. Gastric bypass surgery is performed with the laparoscopic method, known as the closed method. A laparoscope, a thin tube with a tiny video camera (30 cm in length) is inserted through several incisions (5 to 10 mm in length) made in the skin. Long rods with a structure thinner than a pen are inserted into the abdomen. With the help of these rods and staples, a gastric pouch (3 cm in width and 3 cm in length) is formed in the part of the stomach adjacent to the esophagus.

Gastric bypass surgery is one of the most performed surgeries in the world. This surgery is performed to enable people to lose weight with two mechanisms. In a gastric bypass surgery, a small stomach volume is created. Further, the resulting small stomach is anastomosed to the small intestine. Food from the mouth bypasses the large stomach and passes directly into the small intestine. This procedure is called gastric bypass.

Gastric bypass surgery is suitable for patients with body mass index over 35, diabetic patients, and patients who mainly consume sugary foods, alcohol, high-calorie snacks, and coke.

After surgery, patients usually remain hospitalized for a period of 2 to 3 days. After consuming water and liquid foods during this time, you may be discharged if your doctor deems it appropriate.

After surgery, you can easily feel full of small amounts of food. This fullness will turn into satiety and loss of appetite over time. Necessary vitamin and mineral supplements will be taken as instructed by surgeons and dieticians. This way you can lose weight very comfortably, without vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

• How much weight will I be able to lose after gastric bypass surgery?
You can lose 50-100% of your excess weight in 1-2 years after gastric bypass surgery. Your success in weight loss is proportional to your adherence to the postoperative diet and exercise program. After a gastric bypass, for example a patient who weighed 124 kg when entering the operating room, can lose around 50 to 60 kg.
• For which patients is gastric bypass surgery suitable?
Obesity surgeries are rated based on body mass index. Patients with a body mass index of 40 and above, or patients with a body mass index of 35 to 40 with medical conditions associated with obesity, such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, are suitable for this surgery.
